Coffee Republic was formed in 1995 by Bobby and Sahar Hashemi, a brother and sister team.

Since then, Coffee Republic has grown to be one of the best known and largest independent espresso bar brands in the UK, with bars all across the UK from Manchester to Brighton and Birmingham to Bluewater.

Coffee Republic once had a higher number of outlets across the United Kingdom but a number of these were sold to other operators such as Starbucks and Caffe Nero due to Coffee Republic making large losses and there was an unsuccessful bid for Coffee Republic by Caffe Nero in 2002.

In October 2006 founder Bobby Hashemi was ousted in a shareholder revolt and the current chairman is Peter Breach.

Greetings from Canada: the first stop internationally for many U.S.-based systems.

Feel free to take a look at the resources I have tried to assemble so franchise investors can truly understand their businesses: coffee and managing the franchisee:franchisor relationship.

Contact me at les.j.stewart@gmail.com or look for my work at my blog, WikidFranchise or comments on BlueMauMau.org.

All the best and hold on tight!
